Museum
of the National Cultural Palace was built in 1959. It was the first national
and large-scale national museum built after the founding of the People's Republic
of China. Up to now, it has collected and preserved about 50 thousand piece
of cultural relics and material objects from 55 minority ethnic groups in China.
The number and the variety of collections help the museum rank first among other
Chinese museum of the same kind. It has a professional researching team of members
from different nationalities. The museum has published some monographs on the
research of national cultural, such as Clothing of China's Miao Nationality,
Clothing of China's Yi Nationality, National Masks of China's Minority Ethnic
Groups, and Social and Historical Materials of Tibet, China. Museum of the National
Cultural Palace has been dedicated to the exploration, categorizing, researching,
protection, and presentation of national culture. Since its establishment, the
museum has organized over a hundred exhibitions and displays of different types
of national culture, including some excellent exhibitions held in the United
States, Japan, former USSR, Malaysia, South Korea and Hong Kong, which brought
China's colorful and outstanding traditional culture of its minority ethnic
groups onto the world stage, and made positive contribution to the exchange
of Chinese and world cultures. Museum of the National Cultural Palace joined
China Museum Academy and Beijing Museum Academy respectively in 1981 and 1985.
In 1995, it became one of the 55 museums, which composed the first group of
museums registered by Beijing municipal government
